Takin' it all In

sitting inside The Hovel musing
leisurely observing
the bayou’s unhurried passing
no skinny dipping
in those waters
gators don’t’cha know
with sweet Zoe by my side
know I’m not alone
I am merely in seclusion
silently communicating
with the charisma and attraction
of my environment
listening to Bayou Lafourche
imparting her secrets
I listen in rapture
to tales of pirates daring
who sailed these waters
so long ago
I close my eyes
feeling a soft swell
as though
I was aboard a pirate ship
dagger in my teeth awaiting
soon to be plundering
gold doubloons
ah . . .
Zoe’s wet and cold nose
caused me to open my eyes
realized I was sittin’ in The Hovel
not a pirate ship
no dagger clenched ‘tween
my teeth
sighing I drink what was left
of the cheap California burgundy
and when I fell into bed
I dreamed
of that pirate ship
and my share
of all those gold doubloons
stashed in the ship’s hole
