El Ni·ño Renga
(linked haiku)
1
from tidal warming
in the winter of my birth—
deluge to downpour
2
coming up for air
in the rushing waves' escape—
kelp beds where I lay
3
even in my sleep
these underwater senses—
riding the currents
4
gazing at the moon
connecting with her phases—
my other mother
5
years of endless drought
gone into hiding for now
never far behind
6
return to winter
celebrating in the rain
of the El Ni·ño
