Not By Chance

Strangers we once were
Fighting the same illness
Isolated and on our own
Uncomfortable stillness

Entering the room
Tears betrayed your eyes
Immediately seeing
Your internal cries

Offering a tissue
We did not even glance
Compassion for another
Not meeting by chance

How much I knew your pain
I felt the same as well
Living in fear of stopping
Existing in our hell

Together in silence
Somehow we both knew
Camaraderie kindled
And quite quickly grew

Discussions over coffee
Instead of our cocktails
Speaking of our lives
Sharing private details

It was a first time for me
As it was for you
Now friends and champions
Seeing each other through
