Distilled Belief
Theres an alien seeking asylum somewhere inside of me
Its hiding silently somewhere between the flesh and the bone
As long as Im alive and well neither one of us is free
When it finally escapes this cell, will he be engraved in stone?
Were it as simple as drinking wine from the golden cup
I would have felt Jesus in my veins when I was a Catholic child
But no matter the untold confessions, the prayers kept me looking up
And wondering if the Lord is no more than imagination running wild
Millions have forged words on their study of theology
When none of them KNEW anymore than a NEW-born baby knows
Distilling the search, all I know is this chalice remains empty
And the blood that spilled from within made a stain that never shows
Its hiding silently somewhere between the flesh and the bone
As long as Im alive and well neither one of us is free
When it finally escapes this cell, will he be engraved in stone?
Were it as simple as drinking wine from the golden cup
I would have felt Jesus in my veins when I was a Catholic child
But no matter the untold confessions, the prayers kept me looking up
And wondering if the Lord is no more than imagination running wild
Millions have forged words on their study of theology
When none of them KNEW anymore than a NEW-born baby knows
Distilling the search, all I know is this chalice remains empty
And the blood that spilled from within made a stain that never shows
