Eostre
Fields
of gold
raise your lazy heads
rime
has gone
Samhain's ghost with crone
I can hear the children
move in the underbrush
the seeds pop, muscles stretch
all-knowing wide-eyed, no longer tacent
creatures of Eve, four-legged fawn
chatter by alder Fae
moons move from blue to black
the highs of Boone
and wax for truths
swept, we lie by the sickle
soft tones sigh
from precipice, yon veranda
climbing ivy tempt the nightshade
twist with vine, wave clematis
snap-dragons dive still tinged in green
hover my sod, plot and field
nails beam like crosses
hanging by a thread of sunlit promise

There is a light, fairy tale quality which makes sense seeing the purpose of the write. Having said that the perspective seems to be grounded in what a human can perceive in reality. Add in a little Enya music and I am totally feeling this!

The fae run around my ankles, pushing me out to those fields of gold. Time to play. This warmed my heart and I salute the rebirthing...

In joyous celebration of the season....honoring the Goddess of Spring (and flowers)!!
My friend....,the vivid imagery of this piece fills one with rejuvenation--a sense of hope born of life reawakened ....wanting to join Nature's creatures, and the Fae folk, dancing through all the new flora and fauna!
With your poem, my soul thaws...my spirit soars!

This is quite an observation,
particularly for this time of year ...
though I am big on fall & winter
spring & summer tend to
suffer my appreciation for it
but now that a different picture
has been painted, perhaps I
will reconsider my thought on spring
what it bares and symbolizes ...
beautiful ink, my Friend,
~xo, Devlin

Ah, Eostre. Ostara. Or if you're a dirty old Druidic hippy like me, Alban Eilir.
I just love the story telling you've weaved into this piece. I like the direct opposites you've described with Samhain - the time of death and darkness giving way to the light. I particularly enjoyed that.
The children rustling in the bushes compared to the deer, another interesting correlation. You wonder what animals would make of all our human customs and traditions.
Nails beam like crosses - I enjoyed that the iconic image from that stanza was actually the sunlight beaming, rather than the crosses. Marries in with your beautiful Pagan title wonderfully.
Gorgeous read, full of child-like glee. Thank you :)

Greatly Appreciate Your Words Earthen Child!!! Ostara is my usual spelling...but I think I did one last yr. with that, so I thought I'd use the Germanic version. Alban is Truly Beautiful ...I imagine You know the tale about how She would come in the form of a bunny? Lot of interesting tales and spins to Her stories, depending on where. I think the animals feel the energy, other than that we are a smelly nuisance to them-Unless offering food lol The children...have You ever listened on a quiet Spring night to everything growing from underneath the leaves of last yr.? It is almost like a very quiet rain type of sound. Ahhh thank You for the notice of the Inversion-Tis the orginal tales that become forgotten (or stolen)

Soul, with words you have painted a glorious scene set in my absolute favorite season. Although in Texas our Spring is actually Spummer. In California I had Spring. Bravo!

Thank goodness we have not had any snakes on our property but I know folks who live near water that have problems with water moccasins etc. They freak me out too. Cheers!

Let this stand here as my last comment for awhile lol
I must admit the first line when i saw it earlier in the day (which i gave the thumbs up trademark ala fb, yes, yes i know how much you love fb lol) it reminded me immediately of Sting song and there's traces of it which are just as beautiful as the song itself but this has much unique elements of a broader picture of the whole spectrum.
Did i ever tell you that i used to be a supervisor at a gardening shop when i was in my late teens to early 20s, i learned alot about horticulture which makes me appreciate even more when i see details on plants and trees knowing well how the writer is up close and personal with nature itself.
I still chuckle whenever i think of that moment when we were walking and i saw an unusual flower, i asked what it was and you replied, 'its just a pretty flower!' well, that sums it up pretty much, one doesn't need to know anything else but appreciate the true beauty of nature, and this is truly beautiful my friend :)

Sting eh?...indeed I love him...but Babe...he's a bass player ;) Indeed what matters most, to know "Pretty flower" ...I'm pretty positive that is its scientific name!!! Thank You for giving Your last comment here (for a while) To walk again soon...

A fine tribute to rites of spring. So tempting to go Pagan and be born yet again. Beautifully written and a thrill to read!

Just realizing how much I've missed already from great poets like you.
