Trilogy of Parts
Our society is in a mental health crisis...We will discuss any illness openly from cancer and diabetes to erectile dysfunction and irritable bowel syndrome but when it comes to mental health, it becomes the pink elephant that no one wants to address. I am by no means putting up a yard stick to measure as it would be inadequate to all. Regardless of a label, we are all of mind, body and spirit. If any one of these areas is malformed, in any way, the topic must be open to conversation and help must be made available without judgement or predetermination of outcomes.
As a society, we fail the mentally ill
Symptoms argue, a simple power of will
Research is limited and funding insufficient
General practitioners, fundamentally non-proficient
Stigmatised and labelled, casting blame
Perpetuating guilt and atrocious shame
Disease of the body, merits gentle care
Specialist provisions, treatment not to spare
A malady of soul, sadness, alienation
Seeks a sacred counsel, when needing consolation
Yet ailment of the mind, hides quietly in despair
The secrets of an origin, a heavy cross to bear
Mind, body and spirit, a trilogy of parts
We must preserve the three;
Without one, life departs
Inspired by Society in Ruin competition
