AGATE

Calf never saw
Cow mother cry
Only her joy at a homecoming bull

She never forget you-o
How she never forget you

Coming home
As the yellow leaves fell
Roots never leave
Even as the yellow leaves

a gate opens

The fire twins race
Bright as tallow wick
Exploding Phaeton
Earth embraced
Morning mantra mouthed

a gate opens

There are people living in the old house
making a life for themselves

I watched them through the bay window
Their things on our shelves

The bay window where you'd play guitar
and watch the cat leap

Where we chased each other and
Other thoughts blown duck down duck down

a gate opens

A thousand breaths left
How slowly I breathe
And so broadly
Without mean thought or hatred
Or ang or barely a wish

When I'm gone
This carry on will carry on
Held together with sticks stones
And words

gate clang like a bell toll

And hand in hand we go
Through golden fields of corn
Our silence golden as the silver tongue

For whom did it toll-o

And why
