Ronin's Valley
(a pantoum)
For days, long passed, the valley shook,
Long chants in ancient Shinto texts.
Wanting not the townsfolk realm,
His juzu raised to rain and sun.
Long chants in ancient Shinto texts,
A ronin monk whose rumor spread,
His juzu raised to rain and sun.
His sword he kept to hardened edge.
A ronin monk, whose rumor spread,
She called through all the gods’ beseech.
His sword he kept to hardened edge,
For she, the quest would have his heart.
She called. Through all the gods’ beseech,
He came to her, as he was led.
For she, the quest, would have his heart.
His sword, her service gladly swore.
He came to her, as he was led.
Wanting not the townsfolk realm,
His sword, her service, gladly swore,
For days long passed, the valley shook.
