Torn Up Lips
She hands me a tube of chap stick
Her kind eyes filled with such concern
"You should be kind to your lips" she says
I look at her, my eyes fill with tears
My torn up bottom lip between my teeth
She takes my hand and wraps it around
The small tube filled with medicine in my hand
She pulls me close, resting my head on her shoulder
I cry harder, trying to control the sound of my sobs
" I know, I know" She murmurs comfortingly
Her hand rubs circles into the middle of my back
"I know you bite out of stress, I know you don't meant to"
She quietly pulls away and takes the tube back
Uncapping it she ever so gently rubs it across
My dry, sore, torn up lips, and she wipes away my tears
"Promise me you'll use this, okay?" She says softly
I nod and she hugs me again tighter this time
As if her hugs could crush the broken pieces inside
Back together, as if her love could make me whole again
The love of a good friend, a best friend can heal some brokeness
