Some Notes on Magik

 
Magic doesn't always arrive when you expect it to
it can sneak into your life without you realizing
and then one day you understand
that it's been perched on your shoulder for a long time
and that maybe it's always been there.
 
Dreams and magic together make for an experience of
the most powerful kind
and when the dream is one you never realized you had
the surprise hits with the ultimate jaw drop moment
that can overwhelm you unless you're strong about it.
 
Not so long ago when I was making a magic wand
(not something I do every day and strictly for fun, you understand)
I was struck by the thought that I already knew the length it needed to be
- the same length as my forearm - and later this was confirmed
by people who are far more expert in these things than I.
 
It was the same as me knowing the place where a plant needs to grow.
My Grandaddy was a farmer and although I never knew him in life
some of his knowledge has passed down to me - don't ask me how
because I guess I've forgotten more than I'll ever know -
but I'd be surprised if you weren't like that too in some way.
 
Now some scientists may describe that as genetic memory
and they've written lots about it in painstaking detail
conducting experiments in laboratories and such like
but they don't mention the magic side of things too much
so I felt I would mention that here - I hope you don't mind,
but then perhaps you already knew
that there can always be
a forgotten candy bar at the back of the refrigerator.
