Man Of Winter

His ghost walked the feckless winter of his icy heart
in stillness for his love lay frozen there asleep in an
arcane rest where he had left and forgotten her...

Glassy and bare and with an infinite cast so entombed
in his holding of endearment within for he had not
loved her when her blood still flowed for him he had
withheld his true feelings...

Frozen now among his glacial conquests was she so
waxen and still for the prize was a blue-rinsed trophy
resembling a beautiful girl... He reached out to kiss
her stillness in a blowing frost and his lips froze and
his heart would not thaw...

He feared no warmth was still within so he left her
in his numbing enchantment where no activity ensued...
A Father of all; for she was his child, she echoed
with a life that had been so wild and free on the
earth he had observed yet he could not love her in
a way she deserved...

So stern and stolid his soul within a winter solstice
embracing her and yet never finding a way to keep her in...
Of all lifes turmoil he knew so well and like a book
he read her and what stories she would tell as he
viewed her through panes of distortion of his
own regret...

He bowed to lift and carry her above lifes defrays
counting every insult she had fought along the way
and he whispered a story in her ear of both of
their trials as on earth she had penned him in
a grand tale...

Her head fell back as her hair flowed down and
brushed the earth without a sound with parted lips
she spoke his name and he inhaled it in so softly
an echoed refrain...

'Man of Winter, how can you ever be freed to
go among the things on earth which you have seen
for I contain them all and you know me for I am
your child; you created me'...

'For I must burn to thaw you with my warmth
and you must light the fire and stoke this hearth
for within winters heart lies a blazing heat
asleep and dreaming of sweet release'...

He lifted her to the sun afire and begged for her
return to his halls of desire so she could feel his
heart within his fractal surface to be revived
and again become his beloved child...

'You must turn the key to release the desire
for I am only a girl who is meek and mild as
I have become without your love, My Father,
it is only to you I aspire'...

With a gaze into her amber smoked eyes
he carried her limp form to a great leaf and
twig pile and lay her down so gently that she
barely knew what was about to transpire he
lit a match and said, 'I love you too much
to keep you alive, for I no longer can bear to
wander with you inside'...

In a molten way he set his heart ablaze; her
and all she had known in her days for only
the story would survive in this heat and thrive
for it rose like smoke as each word was
a floating ember that would come to rest
and he would never find where they lay...

The Man of Winter seeked the cold he
never returned to find his love in that fold
he turned so white his body glowed and
his life force was crystallized in a frosty hold
that an epic story was born to arise from
the destruction of his loves demise...

But he was not so cold within, he had
only been frozen by lifes whims that had
held him above such merciless frays and
held him to never himself betray and such
the way was love that he needed to cast
it away...

Into the air she floated away and broke
into a million fragments of ice that fell
softly like snow and became words to
construct a story that would show all
she had endured and known...

In a great gust he too became the air and
was swept up into it along with the
worlds cares and his story too fell
like snow on an endless winter that
would never see life again so still
and in words would they become immortal...
