The Truth about Love
She told me
it must be
the dirtiest most misused word
in life's dictionary
so she was always determined
to tear out the page
People said love
when they really meant
suffocate
Love was the ugliest poison
a person could wish for
a rotten heartsick prison
the torture cell
for a life betrayed
Love was a dream
with no happy ending
and if just for a moment
you thought it lasted forever
darling Death
would laugh in your face
then snatch it savagely away
Love etched letters in stone
that crumbled to dust
while the grass grew
where your lover lay
Only there would you find
love's true worth
waiting undisguised
as nothing beyond the grave
You won't stop me loving you
I said
but I'm sorry you feel that way
it must be
the dirtiest most misused word
in life's dictionary
so she was always determined
to tear out the page
People said love

Love was the ugliest poison
