Maybe Pieces Are Enough
"How did you break down my walls?
Says he, Looking aimlessly around speaking, I guess his question is meant for me.
"I saw in you what was broken, the part of me I still had left, so I gave you what you were missing because you deserved the best." I reply trying to meet the far away glance of his eyes as they scan the floor for explanation of the unexplained.
Sighs, looks into my eyes, skipping my heart from my chest.
"I still see you, even if you don't see yourself, I see the light that shines beyond the darkness you hide behind."
Tears well in my eyes and I wish that he saw the hollow of what was to remain my best.
"How can you see what isn't there to see? I've nothing left of what was me, broken pieces I gave and dropped off endlessly."
His eyes try to stretch my reach...
"Before you I was nothing, a vessel and you gave me hope, without you I have nothing left."
I smile, forced smile to hold back tears.
"My dear, you have all that I had left to give."
He smiles, forced smile
"Darlin' whatever it was that you brought back of me belongs to you not me."
He replies
And I cry...
Realize he gave me life when I was trying not to live.
And maybe just maybe the pieces of him he gave to me are enough to hold me up...
