Hell of a morning
First come, first serve
That's how it is at the Clinic
On days like today,
They're lined up
from the break of dawn.
We can only help so many,
and some must be turned away
out into those hard streets,
to fight this sickness
on their own
First come, first serve
It's our motto here,
at the free clinic.
We help who we can,
Those who come in time,
or who show up
at the right day and time.
All others must help themselves,
or stand in line
to wait around
Urgent needs get pulled
to the front of the line,
But its up to me to decide.
Is this one urgent enough,
to cut in front of all these people,
who have been waiting all day
to be seen?
That's how it is
at this Drop In Clinic
No appointments here,
Just come early
and wait around,
for the greater part
of your waking day.
First come, first serve.
You see, some people
misunderstand
what "Drop In" means
in "Drop In Clinic"
They think it means
you can just "Drop In"
anytime,
and we'll see you then.
It's not quite that way.
It means no appointments,
First come, first serve.
"But I just need my meds refilled"
"I just need the doctor to fill out
this paperwork"
"It will only take a few minutes"
'I'm sorry,' I say,
'But you'll have to wait a couple hours,
then the doctor will see you,'
'I'm sorry,' I say,
'But you'll have to come back.
There's only two doctors here today,
and the list is full.
These people have been lined up
since the break of dawn."
That's how it is
volunteering at the free
Drop In Clinic.
Wait in line, to sit around and wait
and eventually be seen.
