a slave squinting behind a cracked mask

these endless fractals of my mental confinement
are only trumped by the sea of regret that floods into my soul with each passing moment.
the beast within me, no..
the beast within us must survive in a civilized world.
society damns us with the burden of connection,
the meaningless pleasantries,
the aggressive cries for validation,
it is ironic then that I dream of utopias only to ravage them with my own sin,
So in this moment i find myself a slave squinting behind a cracked mask.
eyes cast to the ground in fear,
fear of a vast world untouched by my senses,
of sweeping landscapes folding into the horizon like the air flowing into my lungs,
fear of an introspective journey to conquer my own great frontier,
of shattering revelations realized by connecting the dots of my own existence...

I just want to feel human,
but that feeling has escaped me.
