As a youngster    
my father would load    
a seven single    
on his "wireless"    
Turn the volume knob    
on the old valve amplifier    
up to 10    
Blow the fabric covers    
of his speakers    
like curtains holding tornadoes    
in open windows

My mother would scream    
from the kitchen    
"Put it down, it's too loud!"    
   
He would hollar back  
like his sarcastic voice  
was singing    
to the lyrics of the tune    
   
"Some say Love, it is a rainbow"    
 
he would laugh    
so would she    
They would embrace and dance    
through the cramped sitting room    
So all three of their kids    
could see    
   
Then they would kiss    
   
We would giggle
