Thanks to a Lost Friend
The way you ended your life does not define you
A kind hearted soul that changed the course of my life
In many ways you saved me from my own suicidal desires
Picked me up and made me laugh when I thought I never could
If the Lord is as forgiving as I am, your fate is in Heaven
For your caring heart watched over many lost souls
And brought mine to do good work no sales could reward my pockets with
I wonder if we will meet again in the afterlife
What will be said between dead friends
Living eternally without the lies and misbeliefs
Where truth is the will and the way, unwavering in the calmness
Of peace that fills the air and love is the substance of souls
I never got the chance to thank you old friend
So for now, this poem will have to represent
Then if we meet again, I can read you my poetry
Maybe then you will read yours to me
A kind hearted soul that changed the course of my life
In many ways you saved me from my own suicidal desires
Picked me up and made me laugh when I thought I never could
If the Lord is as forgiving as I am, your fate is in Heaven
For your caring heart watched over many lost souls
And brought mine to do good work no sales could reward my pockets with
I wonder if we will meet again in the afterlife
What will be said between dead friends
Living eternally without the lies and misbeliefs

Joe
You can still read your poetry to your friend..,
right now, if you can, or on the bus, or just before slumber overtakes you.

Beautifully written with the heart. I too recently lost a friend. Although we both had been suicidal for years, (both of us saving each other many times) his death was an accidental OD. I know because the pork chops was still frying on the stove when I found him. (He died in my arms) May you find peace on this earth till you meet your friend again. My deepest heartfelt condolences.

Struck a chord - I lost a lovely friend, Marian, who hanged herself at 46 a few months after, at our last meeting telling me "I'm depressed and I hate it". It was depressing because a decade before she had prayed for me (she was also a Christian) while I was being rescued unconscious from a swimming pool we both were in. She had a history of mental illness I was not fully aware of until I read her inquest report in the local news

writing poetry in heaven, and reading poems to each other, do we really need to go upstairs, to me it already sounds like heaven, of course dependent on who the others are

Well, he's already gone wherever his destiny lies and mine is a long way off, I hope. But who knows, i can only see from my point of view...
