even supernova's implode eventually

You’re the silence between my words
the small death between each breath
the memory of me climbing the jungle gym
to escape the teeth of your dog at the park

You’re every obscenity ever uttered out loud
dressed as the devil getting drunk in the pub
that time at Halloween
and we passed each other in the bathroom
mirror and pretended our faces weren’t familiar

You’re the bottle of vodka we downed by the pool
asking me what I’d do if you leaned across the table
and punched me in the face
disappointment skittering across your own
when I smiled and said I’d just take it

You’re the hit and run on the zebra crossing
the skin cancer that keeps coming back
the DD boobs on a tiny anorexic frame

You’re the scandal that divided us

You’re the life that could have been better lived

You’re the death that could have been prevented

You’re the corpse hanging in the garage
your daughter will never forget
