The Concept of Time

What is time?
The limitless progress of existence,
such an intricate conception,
to wrap our perceptions around
It maintains significant order,
while sustaining life of all boarders

But what really happens as time progresses?
Surrounding nature will alter at a steadily rate,
but our minds will alter faster,
interchanging through the phases of life

But what will lie in store for our souls?
An excursion of endless emotions,
causing more commotion util we are old,
time is bold..
Time continues to progress,
while our souls suppress

Time moves swift,
so you better learn to move quick
or be left behind

I've been contemplating time since I was a young boy and I could not comprehend the Catholic teachings that God always was and will be. That simply cannot be. There must be a beginning to have reached the here and now. If time went infinitely backward, we could never get to where we are because this would be an infinite moment away from the never beginning past. Yet there must have been something, some time before the beginning. How could everything just start from nothing? What could create the first moment of time without an example from which to make more of it? Can infinity exist at all? How can we exist without it?
Great write but now I'm going to be awake all night, maybe forever, trying to wrap my mind around time...
