Homeless in the underpass
They sit under the underpass
With a shopping cart
Looking for a fresh face
Something new
Someone like you
Who comes and asks
For black or white
Whatever you got
For fifteen dollars
To get you through another
Four hours
They “got your hookup”
Drive to the corner
In a broken down rascal
Into a hedge of rats…
Find your black
In a sweaty palm
Palms that know
The veracity of dirt
And this you put
Straight to the vein
Straight to the brain
Into the skies of
Blue oblivion
Blue…and black
And white
Crack and crystal
Streaks of heaven
Straight to Hell
Your tethered and boundless life
Your portal into black extinction.
