in the dark

you turn your face towards me in the dark
it is encased in metal.
your snores whistle and rattle through that terminator mask
rattle and wheeze and grunt
and your breath breaks up the moonlight like a prism.

your furniture asks me bad questions
but my mind doesn't mind
the red eye of your alarm clock on your monster drawers
the red i told you was a devil and you said oh? ok
and grunted again when i asked apprehensively about the moving boil on your ceiling
how long has that boil been on your ceiling?
how long?

you'd been taken
or were pretending sleep and now i had to be quiet
let them hiss and twist in my inner ears
while your bullying furniture took steps towards me
so i turned over

pressed my pebbly spine to the cold metal of the thin bed
i was alone
and a light shone through the meshed glass window
and under the door three beams on the blue floor
i know they will not abduct me and i think it's a shame
