A lovely dress
That is a lovely dress, he might remark;
And you can look away and be content
That he'll have noted newness; don’t resent
The fact when it’s not so; for, if he'll park
His compliments until another time,
It’s not because he's eager to ignore
The fact that you have dressed – it is no crime,
That you should look delightful here, before
He takes you in his arms and you can dance
Around the room with foolishness in mind;
And you can laugh and he, perhaps, can chance
A few choice words to make you more inclined
To keep him in the room when you progress
To bed, first taking off that lovely dress…
And you can look away and be content
That he'll have noted newness; don’t resent
The fact when it’s not so; for, if he'll park
His compliments until another time,
It’s not because he's eager to ignore
The fact that you have dressed – it is no crime,
That you should look delightful here, before
He takes you in his arms and you can dance
Around the room with foolishness in mind;
And you can laugh and he, perhaps, can chance
A few choice words to make you more inclined
To keep him in the room when you progress
To bed, first taking off that lovely dress…
