Shit On A String
i dreamed i wrote some shit down
on a small piece of lined paper
It was a crappy poem i think
i crumpled the paper into a loose ball
and tied a long white string around it
walked to the balcony and peered over
threw it off and watched it hit the grass
then i cut the string with small scissors
Not sure but think i just set my shit free

Years and years ago, when I first began writing poetry, I'd throw my work in a potbelly woodstove. I did this nearly every morning, fearing that when the rest of my family woke up, they'd find it and laugh at me.
How I wish I had some of that shit back.

I keep everything...kind of an evolution of my writing...of course it was bad at the beginning but so what...if Picasso & Mozart threw things away wouldn't you think that a pity....oh & welcome to the DU :)
This poem is a bit cryptic, it's an actual dream i had two nights ago.
To me it represents taking out the trash from my soul.
i too keep everything. There's a great big folder somewhere in the storage
full of my high school poetry and later poems. Most of it is pretty grim and pathetic stuff
but it's on my agenda to find it and sift through for something usable or fixable.
Am a firm believer in editing today.
