Change Your Story, Change Your Outcome
Change Your Story, Change Your Outcome
( Written for a Marine brother of mine who is almost out of harm's way. He is a domestic violence victim, soon to be survivor.)
Silence is the modus operandi of the spiritless ones
The ones who assume a false facade
The ones who always hope for the positive
Amidst all that is obviously flawed
They close their eyes and bow their heads
Considerably distraught and irrevocably broken
Like marionettes they spring up and listen
For when the offender has discernibly spoken
Their bodies are no longer their temples
For their souls have left their home
Soon their free will shall follow
And their shell will be all that is shown
Loving
Caring
Nurturing
Unbearing
Physical
Violent
Unapologetic
Silent
Intimidating
Deceiving
Volatile
Demeaning
Stunned
Observing
Apologetic
Undeserving
Helpful
Loving
Nurturing
Hovering
Lather, Rinse, Repeat
They find it difficult to run and break free
As their heart somehow keeps them in place
They choose to continue to bastardize themselves
As they’re told they’re always a disgrace
They want to see the good beneath the rage
Maybe they’ll see that rainbow through the clouds
Instead they only see the pandemonium
And start to prepare their own shrouds
They are the ones who lament the loudest
Even though they don’t appear to scream
Always imprisoned in their own abode
Living in the world of impossible dreams
Day in and day out they continue to stay
Slowly succumbing to their own delusions
Light slowly dissipating from their souls
Now in the dark creating their own illusions
Will this be the story of their existence
With no chance for a rewrite?
Or will there be a new tale to tell
With a happy ending in sight?
Show us your eyes so that we may see
Give us your heart so that we may feel
And we will give back to you your new sight
And show you a love that they cannot steal
Take our hand and let us lead the way
As we walk out of the depths of hell together
And feel the unwavering pain one last time
Before it is to be cast aside forever
To change your outcome, you must first change your story
