Back Roads
One small town leads to another
back roads hold stories of
many late night rendezvous
and early morning farming
Weathered barn wood holds
the memories in it's walls of
the young now in their old age
reminising about those wild back roads
back roads hold stories of
many late night rendezvous
and early morning farming
Weathered barn wood holds
the memories in it's walls of
the young now in their old age
reminising about those wild back roads

This is a very sweet poem. I love the nostalgic metaphors of the back roads with the past. Nice write, Tommie.

What stories those barns could tell, that have been used for generations. I can visualise the English countryside equivalent (for small town, usually we say village).

So many old barns around here SS, but there's not as many that still produce milk...it's actually sad.
Thank you 😊

The British dairy farming industry is in crisis too, with many such farmers leaving the land or taking different livelihoods. My dad saw it coming in the 1980s, took voluntary redundancy from the bulk tank making firm he then worked for (BTW US owned - DEC corporation) because more farmers were ordering milking machines to be taken out than ordering them to carry on business.

it's a hard working life, Tommie;
not much sleep between those late night affairs
& morning chores...

Excellent work Tommie. This reminds me of a trip I made to Mississippi way back when. You include so much mystery and atmosphere in a mere eight lines. Better back roads than the highway.
