Glimpse of Hope

forty years and a little more
chasing a shadow on the wall
run as might in hide and seek
listening with hope to hear
an invitation behind the desire
to live for a moment together
with pledges of love and fidelity

many a Hope did come and go
many promises made and forgotten
kisses exchanged made Judas cringed
no thirty silver exchanged
and yet the pain remained the same
nothing spared when swords
swung in the name of destiny

Hope springs eternal
deep in the hearts of man
be it for that million dollar lottery
scoring a mildly interested whore
or a true love
at the foot of the altar.
