Diciassette
I loved the dark haired boys
Their sly smiles
And I was sure the Rhythmic flow
Did not change the words that came out
Of those pouted native mouths
They were exactly the same
As the words that the American boys
Had been sayin...
But ahhh!!
So I chose not to understand
Instead..
I grasped hands with the prettiest
And we fled, Nike our Apollo
Took wing to catch our train
Out of Venice..
Why? Did I ever want to leave...
We took flight
Over the Bridge of Sighs
And everyone did....
In response to our very being
Their sly smiles
And I was sure the Rhythmic flow
Did not change the words that came out
Of those pouted native mouths
They were exactly the same
As the words that the American boys
Had been sayin...
But ahhh!!
So I chose not to understand
Instead..
I grasped hands with the prettiest
And we fled, Nike our Apollo
Took wing to catch our train
Out of Venice..
Why? Did I ever want to leave...
We took flight
Over the Bridge of Sighs
And everyone did....
In response to our very being

Just lovely, Jennifer. Simple structure and content
that delves deeply under the surface of an outward
understanding to a universal feeling that overcomes
language barriers.

Ohhh . . . Sometimes, Jennifer we take
what we think is the perfect route for us,
but in fact it can, and sometimes is, the
very worst choice.

Ah Jen...this brought back memories of my trip to Venice and Italy...those dark haired men (in my case) are just delicious...and they know just how to treat a woman, no matter what age, size or looks...Italy was so romantic and hopefully still is... :)

Oh yes indeed..it was the last time i went. 🔆🔆 Dont think you could keep romance out of such a beautiful place..or around beautiful people lol..I kept a couple friends. Used to speak pretty well....it's been a while since using it conversationally. .
Thank you Kate..I hope you get the chance to return!

Lovely Jen I hope you left the leads in shreds but didn't make a mess of the Doge's palace in your hurry to be off!
Grand write as usual.

well done with this, jen.
I liked how you focused in some fashion on the mouths in the first stanza. That body part is often overlooked, but it is so sensual. A source of satisfaction in the ears, and other places.
"We took flight
Over the Bridge of Sighs" - very nice!!!
