HERDSMAN
The herdsman sleeps with his cattle
His feet in their dung
And their fleas in his eyes
Happy he's not alone
Giving thanks for their milk
In the dark he'll build a fire
That no amount of dark
Can overcome
Sending sparks of glitter
Glad at what he's done
Hewn from the bodhi blaze
He makes a drum of bark
And dares to be delivered
His happiness the light
That's shining in the dark
Shining in the dark
His face white with fire ash
Not even waiting for the sun
He dances jumping high
For tomorrow may be his last
His feet in their dung
And their fleas in his eyes
Happy he's not alone
Giving thanks for their milk
In the dark he'll build a fire
That no amount of dark
Can overcome
Sending sparks of glitter
Glad at what he's done
Hewn from the bodhi blaze
He makes a drum of bark
And dares to be delivered
His happiness the light
That's shining in the dark
Shining in the dark
His face white with fire ash
Not even waiting for the sun
He dances jumping high
For tomorrow may be his last

Ahhh, whale, luv ~ :-*
This is such a remarkable piece of art and life and human-ness on so many levels. Tis a blessing to read, luv. Oh, how you've graced us! :-*
I find myself rather at a loss for words. I am a creature of all-consuming, fervent emotion these days, it seems, and much that is profound and full of the immensity of our fundamental interconnectedness stands me still, incapable, lost for adequate articulation.
This is somewhat that has done such to me, luv. :-*
Ahhh, luv, the fundamental interconnectedness of all things - how you've encapsulated it so well here!

Hey Hepcat - thanks for this comment - in the face of the inevitable (our death)
Re. HERDSMAN
There's a difference in loneliness and solitude. The former is directed to the physical self and produces self-pity and yearning for what isn't. The latter is directed to the spiritual gateway of home and produces peace and joy. He has found the joy through appreciation and gratitude of what is.

Re. HERDSMAN
This is one of those poems that I would never get enough of no matter the length. It has been well met with my own spirit.
