I'll never know

Sometimes our minds play tricks, they can be oh so cruel
reminding you of things you thought were true
Make more of something than it really was
Playing memories over of us

Like what could of been, it was false intimacy
thinking a lover was who they appeared to be
A touch to you like no other
knowing you were just one of many lovers

riding your bikes
swimming in pools
fairs in the summer
classes at school

Growing up together
sharing your youth
knowing no moment
was ever true

confiding secrets
crying at night
eyes so swollen
from passionate fights

making love every day
thinking all you did would make them stay
that they felt something
knowing deep down they felt absolutely nothing

So your mind plays these games
when you are asleep, things go your way
and when you are awake, comparing your lovers
thinking you had more than you did, with the other

All you remember are the good times
the way they felt, was nothing but lies
But your heart still clings, only to what it wants to recall
And you are left staring at walls
imagining what might have been
If love had really existed then
