A Beam Of Sunlight
The only beam of sunlight before dusk
Lights up her face in a persuasive glow,
Reflecting perspiration as it must:
For, in her weakness, she’s surrendered so
Much more than she would ever have believed
To be possible when she came across
The chance to be seduced and, then, relieved
Of all responsibility; the loss
Is something she can live with even now
When he has scraped her soul – the cleanest hull
Could hardly rival hers – with each kow-tow,
She lives through pressure and abides the pull
Of the demands of servitude: the dream
Of being wanted more than that sunbeam
Lights up her face in a persuasive glow,
Reflecting perspiration as it must:
For, in her weakness, she’s surrendered so
Much more than she would ever have believed
To be possible when she came across
The chance to be seduced and, then, relieved
Of all responsibility; the loss
Is something she can live with even now
When he has scraped her soul – the cleanest hull
Could hardly rival hers – with each kow-tow,
She lives through pressure and abides the pull
Of the demands of servitude: the dream
Of being wanted more than that sunbeam
