The Role the Catholics Played at the first Thanksgiving

The Pilgrims and Puritans were Protestants all.
And since Thanksgiving was about them,
Thanksgiving is strictly a Protestant event, right?
Wrong !! Thanksgiving included the Indians,
Chief Masasoit brought along 90 Indian Braves.
More importantly Squanto, Indian Extraordinare, was there also.

He had been kidnapped by an English ship captain in 1605,
Brought to England, he was then sold as a slave.
There he learned English and met John Smith,
Of John Smith and Pocohanus fame.
Smith brought him back to America.
But then another English ship came by and
Squanto was captured all over again !!
This time he was taken to Spain.
Some Roman Catholic friars bought him and freed him,
He converted to Christianity in gratitude.

So Squanto made it back to Plymouth. Massachusetts,
Just in time to meet the Pilgrims before they gave up.
Yes, they were about to return to England, defeated.
An English-speaking Christian Indian,
HOW miraculous his arrival must have seemed !!
He must have been viewed as a God-sent by the Pilgrims !!
And to think it was partly due the the hated Catholics.
Squanto's appearing led them to stick it out.
With Thanksgiving at the end of the harvest season being the result.
There would have been no Thanksgiving without Squanto.
There would have been no Thanksgiving without
The Catholic friars who saved him from the life of a slave.
