I have borrowed the first line from a song set to music by Samuel Barber which I sang as a choral piece many years ago called 'The Coolin' a poem from Irish literature. I have been strongly influenced by this beautiful poem .I have tried, as always, to be economical in my story telling.

This has such subtle notes of erotica but what makes it stand out is that it's all about love in its most primal and minimalistic way. Very lovely poem Mr. Kexby.

The inspiration for this poem comes from the Irish poem 'The Coolin ' I used the first line with a slight alteration.
As you note the poem has an underlying eroticism, not like the eroticism of most DUP erotic poetry which is more like a sex manual and akin to pornography ( a legitimate art form in its own right; however the erotic is far more subtle.)
Samuel Barber's setting for unaccompanied choir captures the essence of the translation.
Good poetry needs no help from music indeed many poems are spoilt by musical settings:however in this instance the music closely bonds with text.
Strangely eroticism is only considered sexual, yet what more erotic than listening to bird song ,fine music, or a child's laughter.?
