If I Look Too Hard
I am looking at you but not really seeing
you state reasons why distance is the standard
maintain a wall which is tougher then it looks
in cracks where I perceive flowers to grow
synthetic compounds dominate
barren of life
I exposed my heart that has been stranded on my sleeve
considered time an ally
crafted sonnets of a love to be
and left them lying in the dirt
in reflection of your self caricature
Having abandoned the reservoir of hope
still cognizant of the physical stimuli
I substitute images in my most desperate hours
and take solace in my most trusted companion
the six and four strings that connect me to
the blues, the folk, the rock,
and ultimately myself....
