The face of a slave mirrored
Is the sheer glass on Zayhed Road
And an orange beetle clutching nothing
A mountaineer without accolades
Or seaview just airtime and curry
To remind him of a home
Worse than this
How calm the Dubai marina
And a cocktail of liars
With ice with sand on our feet
And the little boats bobbing
Two hundred years from now
This sweat and tears forgotten
This laughter and the remains
Our folly the stars and the sand
Is the sheer glass on Zayhed Road
And an orange beetle clutching nothing
A mountaineer without accolades
Or seaview just airtime and curry
To remind him of a home
Worse than this
How calm the Dubai marina
And a cocktail of liars
With ice with sand on our feet
And the little boats bobbing
Two hundred years from now
This sweat and tears forgotten
This laughter and the remains
Our folly the stars and the sand

Dubai can be a sad place indeed, where positive and dark sides of progress mingle in plin sight of one another

no matter our own despondence,
I suppose there is a place that's worse.
the stars know, perhaps even the beetle...

The nomads stand still, now they look up and never to the horizon, where the desert never sleeps.
I've had to revisit this little gem, whale. Great words from a wonderful poet and observer.
