Steel Words
Inspired by Daybreak to Heart Ache by Calamitygin
Some things you never should say
And yet our tongues go on their way
Shouting out before our brains catch up
And take the time to shut them up
And it’s the morning that really gets to you
As you think about those things that you do
The things you say before you think them through
Just a rebel without a clue
The world comes crashing in
And your eyes feel too hot
And your skin feels too thin
Your tears scalding hot as they drip off your chin
Nothing left to do but say you’re sorry
And hope that these words ring as true
As the things you said last night
When you think it wasn’t really you
But those words stay in the way
And in her head though she says it’s ok
There is no real way at all
To take back those things you say
And in the end they’re the end
Those words of madness in the dark to your very best friend
Steel words in the night that you just can’t unbend
Wave goodbye and cry and stay mute in the end
Some things you never should say
And yet our tongues go on their way
Shouting out before our brains catch up
And take the time to shut them up
And it’s the morning that really gets to you
As you think about those things that you do
The things you say before you think them through
Just a rebel without a clue
The world comes crashing in
And your eyes feel too hot
And your skin feels too thin
Your tears scalding hot as they drip off your chin
Nothing left to do but say you’re sorry
And hope that these words ring as true
As the things you said last night
When you think it wasn’t really you
But those words stay in the way
And in her head though she says it’s ok
There is no real way at all
To take back those things you say
And in the end they’re the end
Those words of madness in the dark to your very best friend
Steel words in the night that you just can’t unbend
Wave goodbye and cry and stay mute in the end
