Butterflies

The dance of the butterflies fills my body as the door swings open
And you appear before me like an apparition in sheer white cloth
I can see your body clearly and you make no effort to hide it
You seem to float across the room in your voluminous robes and I begin to sweat
Knowing that soon you will kiss me
I have waited so long for this moment, longer even than you know
And the wait has whetted my appetite to taste you
Your kiss is soft as an angels touch on my lips but I pull you closer to my body
And press you hard against my mouth to show my ardor
You do not resist and yet you do not return the same feelings and I know
Deep in my heart and soul I know
That soon you will be gone from this place
Never to be seen again by the likes of me
You lay me down on my soft bed and stare into my eyes
I know the words you will say to me now
I must go tonight
I’m sorry to disappoint your love since I share your heat but I cannot stay
There is no reason given and none is needed beyond the fact of your leaving
It is enough to break my heart without knowing why you leave
But you do
Moving lightly across the room from my bed to my door and out and away
I am crushed by the weight of butterflies crashing in my soul
