The Age Factor
He's made it this far
Having pushed past a certain age
Opportunities have grown fewer
And some women's thoughts float elsewhere
Settling on the surface of younger men
He just can't seem to comprehend
The stigma of his years
This assumption of decay
And more fragility than he feels
Bleeding just slightly if she turns away.
Having pushed past a certain age
Opportunities have grown fewer
And some women's thoughts float elsewhere
Settling on the surface of younger men
He just can't seem to comprehend
The stigma of his years
This assumption of decay
And more fragility than he feels
Bleeding just slightly if she turns away.

Crow..this is great..then with the pic, bit o sly grin.. Us chicks naturally attracted to the silver chests gorrilas of the jungle dont get this about you guys.
Love the intelligence, maturity, and comfort of an older man.
Father issues lol maybe.
Anyway..fantastic lay of thought..choked up a bit. You always turn on this sapiosexual ho!

Thanks Jennifer! Being a father figure is gratifying but can be deeply frustrating. Time waits for no mummy.

I agree with you about the games. Older men don't have the physical capacity or remaining time. What they do have is experience (ideally) and the desire to please. All the old guy needs is a chance. Thanks Crim!

....age is never a factor, until you factor in age. 'Wait, what?!' :)
Oh... the stories I could tell about this ink!
"And more fragility than he feels

Age has to be taken into account but not if it comes to automatically excluding anyone based on their years. Putting someone out to pasture too early isn't retirement, it's cruelty. I should probably lighten up. Thanks Rain!

Thanks Devlin! I took a break from the femme fatales. They can be exhausting.....
Re. The Age Factor
Is this a love story of a mummy? Loved this line-"The stigma of his years
This assumption of decay"
Or I can look at it as a older person's love for a younger person. We live in a stigmatized world where old people can't really love the young

You're exactly right, Aarti. The mummy angle is just something I threw in by way of illustration. If I take something too seriously, particularly if I can't do much about it, I just go nuts. Hence "The Mummy." Great movie by the way!

I have only watched the Brendan Fraser one. But I liked how this was conceptualized

Oh don't I know this feeling all too well!!! The experience of a young pair of eyes turning from kind and friendly to horror at the creepiness of a 50 something man smiling at them as they realize the slightest bit of sexual attraction. Always makes me wonder if the ones who tell me I'm a handsome guy are lying when they say it behind the armor of their marital vows... maybe that should be my next poem. Great job, very real!

I know the feeling Poetryman. I'm even older, and am skeptical when called handsome. Maybe they mean attractive as a dignified older man, but they expect me to behave, act my age. That gets to be exhausting. Thank you!

My latest poem, "No Wonder She's Single" reflects this idea. After reading and commenting here, I saw a comp called "Single" and since this was on my mind already, it seemed to fit right in. 5 years ago I dated an 18 year old young lady. People my age called me crazy. People her age called her crazy. They were all right...jj

Crow, this piece is for me frighteningly identifiable. It is, however, refreshing to know that at 52 I don't feel old and irrelevant...in many ways I'm just getting started. Bravo Sir Crow!

You've got a long life ahead of you Gahdess. Thank you! I think I'm just getting started too in some ways. I'm a lot less shy than I used to be for some reason. It could be that I care less about what people think about me in ordinary situations. Romance is a different story. I'm still just as clumsy as I ever was. Only 52? You're still a spring chicken....

Thank you for the candle T! I've been burning mine at both ends. You're right that women are mistreated as badly as men when it comes to age, probably more so. An older man with a young woman is thought of with amusement in most cases. Many find an older woman with a younger man grotesque. Depends on the number of years of course, but I think that's the trend. You find much less of this type of thinking in other countries. Thanks again sweet T!

the ladies all agree that a man w/some years behind him
has reached a certain confidence.

I've been chasing older women since I moved out and up to L.A. a month after turning 16. 20 years later? Still prefer them older... 10 years ago I was afraid of my 30's. Now I'm cool with going into.my 40's, gonna do it right. That's partly because of reading your last 100 some odd timeless works though. Your mind and message are fresh. Better than a young man's knowledge is an old man's experience. The older the player, the finer his game.
