I'll Fly Away
Johnny Cash
Lyrics
Some glad morning when this life is o'er,
I'll fly away.
To that home on God's celestial shore,
I'll fly away.
I'll fly away, oh glory, I'll fly away.
When I die, Hallelujah, by and by,
I'll fly away.
Just a few more weary days and then,
I'll fly away.
To that land where joy will never end,
I'll fly away.
I'll fly away, oh glory, I'll fly away.
When I die, Hallelujah, by and by,
I'll fly away.
Grampa sings out, in rejoice and gladness in this day..toe tap..
Hand pitty pat in time on knee..
Eye's dancin glory be..
A memory?
Of the McCurry brothers in harmony..
An his fine Daddy plays fiddle.
Now good Grampa, you hold heavens answer to life's riddle..
"I'll fly Awaaay"
Singin out withem..
Findin Salvation in our loving rhythm..
"Ooooh Gloory, I'll Fly away"
A knowing glance into my eye..
He saw his Hallelujah by n now bye bye..
Well good Grampa,
I say through choked up smile..
Yes good Grampa,
It took a lil while..
But you have now entered that place..
Gazed 'pon your heavenly Fathers face..
Walk with Grama on that celestial shore..
You've righteously earned your Sweet Reward.

Very moving write sweet Jennifer! They might post this behind Heaven's gate so your grandpa and a host of angels can read. They'll be delighted! Hang in there on this dark day. Your grandpa's probably enjoying his reward even as we speak.

Hello Mrs Chatterbox!
Your piece of poetry is just so perfectly nestled here, and the language is gorgeous, it's written in accent (I think) and when I read it aloud I found it almost daring me to sing it, rather than read it. bwaah!
So I'm finding the narration quirky and fun, and the memory held dearly, "Granpa was a helluva ma'an."
I'm wondering about the Johnny Cash quote in the beginning of the piece, I see the value of the quote and yes agree it fits well with the piece, but I'm wondering if ther is a way to seperate it from your writing, (Italic maybe?) or (a poster with the lyrics in place of the lovely picture) or some such thing. You see it has value to write but it seems to take from it, being the first thing the reader see's
This of course is only my opinion, and you're welcome to sweep it out, if you don't agree.
Nice write, Thanks for the read!

Teehee chatterbox! What a nice well stated comment. Yes, i do write my dialect often darlin.
I think seperating the johnny Cash song is a very fine idea.... Even a different font would be better..need to learn how ! Lol the piece was written as sang (i sang i'll fly Away).then the poem i read directly after for grampas funeral today. Indeed he was a helluva ma!. Normally i would not put up such a large quote or full lyrics to a song. A very good eye to see that Rev..
Ill fly Away sung by Johnny Cash is a popular recording of this standard gospell song...i wasnt thinking in terms of someone possibly being unfamiliar with that! Hmm..
But tickled you felt intictivlely it wanted to be sang...my favorite times with grampa during service hyms and listening to the choir...singing along described in song "i ll fly away"
Thanks so much friend
