I've never been a gambling man (well woman) [or have I?]

Just a little taste
and I'm sinking low
ready to throw away
progress
for a little high

So long in sobriety;
to some it seems like
nothing
but a blip in time;
to me,
an eternity

And yet I'm willing
to put my
chips on the table
risk it all
gamble it away
when the house
always wins

Maybe I'll keep
[it]
my chips
in my pants

At least for tonight.

One day at a time.
