The Cold Deep Water
I’m not an absolute beginner
But I feel newborn sometimes
When the situation calls for more than I have
Like now, when I’m
Swimming in deep water
Filled with sharks with bright teeth
I’ve got nothing to hold me above the water
Except my failing strength
And my will to live
Will it be enough until the test is through?
Or will I drown in this deep water
Like many have done before me
Unable to keep up with the ones who know the way
To stay high in the deep
While I begin to falter
And wait for the first tearing teeth
To take me down in the cold deep water
And end my long suffering and pain
In the circle of life
Careless and unknowing
Something that has no idea that I long to live
As I die
Like on many a day before
But I feel newborn sometimes
When the situation calls for more than I have
Like now, when I’m
Swimming in deep water
Filled with sharks with bright teeth
I’ve got nothing to hold me above the water
Except my failing strength
And my will to live
Will it be enough until the test is through?
Or will I drown in this deep water
Like many have done before me
Unable to keep up with the ones who know the way
To stay high in the deep
While I begin to falter
And wait for the first tearing teeth
To take me down in the cold deep water
And end my long suffering and pain
In the circle of life
Careless and unknowing
Something that has no idea that I long to live
As I die
Like on many a day before
