Jenny Diver
This is another one inspired by
Bobby Darin's hit song "Mack the Knife"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8iPUK0AGRo
"The line forms on the right, babe"
Jenny Diver sneers at Madame Thug's ignorance
Her utter disregard of Jenny's value
"The Diver"'s devotion to Macky's every whim
But she's aware his nickname is "The Knife"
And she can usually see his point
Not to mention the lacerations he leaves when tricks remain unturned
Jenny happens to love her perfect skin
And harbors a growing disdain for Macky's weapon
That sharpened jackknife prodding his "pets" in line
But not drawing blood as long as they make a buck
Jenny might now be relegated to last in the ho queue
But she still has her looks, grace and dignity
And the strength to find "The Knife" obsolete
When she finally wises up and draws her 45.

Yay! Love story time with Crowfly. Music and lyrics are some of the best inspirations for creative writing. You are very good at this. Love the double entendre of 'She can usually see his point'. Clever ;)

I've always been a little obsessed with "Mack the Knife." It's one of the first songs I remember hearing as a child, and back then I just thought it was a snappy little tune with harmless content, something about a ladies' man. Over the years it gradually sank in what was really up with Mack. It's perverse as hell but a great song.

Thanks Taryn. It's fun to play around with Brecht's classic, but it can get dangerous. "The shark has such sharp teeth, dear..."

crowman, i'm always in awe of your story telling... you really have a gift for taking one into the moment, to wander around the scene. this is gritty awesomeness!

Thank you Katja! I wrote one called "Suki Tawdry" that is also based on "Mack." It follows the same trajectory of a working girl contemplating Mack's demise. Too bad they couldn't form a union.

Thanks so much for this detailed and fun comment Darksighs. Sounds like you're familiar with the Darin tune. It's probably the most sinister song ever to make it to the top of the charts. Lotta Lenya is also mentioned in the lyrics. She was actually the wife of Bertoldt Brecht (not sure about the spelling) who wrote "3 Penny Opera," the source of the song. Jenny Diver, Suki Tawdry and old Lucy Brown are fictitious, as far as I know. All three are probably working girls in the employ of MacHeath, the murderous pimp, better known as Mack the Knife. You might already know all this so I won't drone on and on. Thanks again!

All around the story-roll, we we grind what was found about the maypole. From bloody ground is your whole new take on the old tale. Liberate and elevate those souls. It's why we write!
Awesome work, comrade crowfly!

See his point. Doll I dig storytelling. Especially in poetry, and you do it so cleverly. The puns are so fun. 💋 I know the song, but not well. Will hace to take a listen and read again. You write with that kind of groove. Went right on my reading list, exited to see theres another. Delicious dish....💋
