The Power Is Yours
I've made a choice
To no longer fight losing battles
To only keep the fight going
When potential wins are on the table
There's no sense in trying
When the end will be where you started
It's much easier to accept this
Than to waste time and emotion
You cannot fight for someone
Who has no desire for your protection
It's a hopeless aspiration
And will only leave you drained
You cannot connect with someone
Who doesn't require your connection
For their lack of inspiration
Will only drive you insane
See, I know all about hope
And how positive thinking can benefit the mind
But I also know how it can destroy it
When realism gets buried beneath optimism
That's why it's important to be objective
To stay on the outside to some degree
To assess chance versus actual possibility
And to not get caught up in either
You need to look at the facts
And examine every bit of evidence
Ensure to hear all the words
But listen harder to the actions
Correlation or lack there of
Will tell you all you need to know
Revelations of where the colours fall
And insight into likely directions
Let your intuition lend a helpful hand
Let it speak to you in truth whether or not you want to hear it
Welcome its guidance and trust its gentle approach
Embrace the destination with confidence that you'll be okay
Be open to the pain that may come along with adaptation
Believe you have the strength to overcome the fear of change
Different formats may have plenty of lessons to teach
Trying new methods could present opportunities to grow
Indeed risks don't come with security guaranties
But it's the only way out of the comfort of familiar cycles
Things foreign to your ideals aren't necessarily bad
The good is found in freeing one's self of unrealistic quests
This is not a sentiment of giving up
Nor is it an expression of deterrence
It is simply an honest realization
That what you want may not ever be what you get
That hope can only get you so far
And you should never let yourself drown in it
Let it go when there's no where left
Before you just get left nowhere
It's right to use acceptance to move on
There is no other productive way forward
Even if it feels wrong and doesn't cater to what seems instinctual
You must do what's ultimately best for maintaining sanity
Just because you dislike something it doesn't mean you can't live with it
You can and you will once you acquire this set of skills
You have the ability to survive and bring yourself back to life
You'll find a way to revive and again feel alive
Eventually you will come to a state of peace
With at first a slight eerie edge but strong enough to bring ease
Reality is what it is and there's no changing that
Better to face it than to dwell and remain trapped
It's not a bad thing to come to terms with how things are
And to evaluate whether or not you can be happy with the outcome
But you can't allow your world's woes to weigh you down
Don't let anyone or anything have that kind of power over you
Reality can suck sometimes it's true
But it doesn't have to control you
So do whatever it is you have to do
And don't be scared to make that move
The power is yours to take
Don't leave it behind with mistakes
Make whatever choices you need to make
And decide that your world won't be ruled by misery or heartache

It made me feel rather curious about what might have inspired this writing. It's full of wisdom, the kind that comes from losing. But losing what?
Whatever that may be, I think that rationalizing every single aspect of life, to this extent, may not be the wisest, though. It's just my point of view, but the way I see it reality is too complex to fully grasp. Sometimes we owe to ourselves to take the sketchy paths, knowing that things may not go as we wanted them to, but also knowing that's all right. I think I often go into feeling I have 'the power', like you say, but sometimes peace, in my experience, comes from letting loose, not being in control. What do you think?

I'm not entirely sure where this came from to be honest. I started out somewhere else and arrived at a completely different destination. I suppose any wisdom comes from experience, but there was a plethora of things traveling through my mind while writing. Everything ranging from what I had lost in the past to observations of what others have lost, mixed with the risk that loss of anything could occur at any given time. I was attempting to convey that whether it is severed connection, or whether it is a desire for something to change, to simply accept what is and find contentment in that. To not hold onto hope for far-fetched ideal solutions, to be open to the good and the bad, and to know that you'll be okay regardless of what happens. And to not fear doing what you have to do in order to get to acceptance, for instance, deciding whether you can live with something or whether walking away is better for your overall state of mind. Hope has its place, don't get me wrong, but it can also be damaging depending on circumstance. Knowing how and where to draw lines is paramount. In that lies power.
I can't help but want to assess and evaluate life, I think it's necessary for learning and growth, which for me, is part of what makes life enjoyable. I think ultimately we are under the control of our subconscious and can't do much about it - a tough but important thing for humans to accept. But I do believe that remaining stuck in sorrow or moving forward to happiness is a choice, thus something we can in fact control. Just as we can choose to learn from an experience or to not. I personally choose to move on and learn. I think acceptance is part of moving on, sometimes letting go of hope for ideal outcomes is part of that process. I consider this to be healthy because from my experience, it's often resulted in peace of mind. The last thing you want to do is end up with fogged perceptions of reality, but the challenge is to not allow hopelessness to skew what truly is realistic. I find usually intuition steps in eventually though when/if that happens (of course we all make mistakes and get it wrong sometimes) and from there it's a matter of listening. A balance of optimism and realism is what I strive for, ironically perhaps idealistic, lol.
I suppose I need more experience with letting loose to fully grasp its beneficial impact. I have no reason to believe such doesn't exist, from tiny pieces of evidence I've gathered along the way. I think with most areas, too much of anything is bad. That includes control. Too much on either side here can be equally destructive. Again, it's about finding and maintaining that damn balance thing.
