Pain Remains

 All that has been said and done between us
You refused to change that habit that is killing you

Am I rightfully chastised for imploring your safety
for you never wasted an opportunity on mine

Despite my promises to the contrary, of course,
the day eventually came that I had to walk away

Your actions even more insane now in my detached hindsight
I truly hope you seek the help you so clearly require

If the things you said at the end didn't make me hate you
I'm sure I would carry some degree of sympathy for you

Your venomous words burn long after the bite
and given the opportunity I'm sure you would grind salt in

My once infatuated passion in the early days of seduction
now just festering anger and boiling bile at your name

I'm left with one last echoing question you will never hear :
How long will it be before I stop missing you?
