A FARMERS ELEGY
The shower spray, eased his aching limbs
After a tiresome day, baling hay
Too tired for a shower song
Despite its cleansing spray
Over the years, the toil seemed harder
As his life, gradually ebbed away
Alone, even in a crowd
Rarely speaking, with little to say
His hopes had vanished, along with his dreams
He'd lost his wife, seemed like yesterday
A lone tear, hidden by the shower spray, swept away
Not long now, his hair had long been grey
"We'll be united again, soon my love"
He tried to ignore the emotional display
His fingers were worn and gnarled
His face was etched in dismay
Sadly sullen, and full of bitter thoughts
He cursed the soil, that made him this way
This wretched earth, had destroyed his soul
His only desire, was death without delay
His final wish was answered
His body and soul were in disarray
Yet strangely, for the first time in many years
At his own funeral, he smiled that day
A smile of expectancy, that wouldn't go away
After a tiresome day, baling hay
Too tired for a shower song
Despite its cleansing spray
Over the years, the toil seemed harder
As his life, gradually ebbed away
Alone, even in a crowd
Rarely speaking, with little to say
His hopes had vanished, along with his dreams
He'd lost his wife, seemed like yesterday
A lone tear, hidden by the shower spray, swept away
Not long now, his hair had long been grey
"We'll be united again, soon my love"
He tried to ignore the emotional display
