The Garden of Forgotten Shame
- The Garden of Forgotten Shame -
There was a garden watered by angels,
Who had beauty that outshone the sun!
When ages passed, desolation’s evils…
‘Twas fated would end what was begun.
When desert sands, replaced the green,
‘Twas only a small oasis didst remain…
And only by chosen eyes: was this seen.
‘Twas as fleeting as all that sandy grain!
When history, was not counted as now.
‘Twas then, that this legend didst occur,
When before old gods man didst bow…
‘Twas a goddess’s garden: only for her.
And men forgot the divinity’s fair name!
‘Twas the doom of mortals to forget so,
And why there came the heat and flame.
‘Twas so that the waters didst not flow,
Until the oasis died of mankind’s shame.
Now none remain who recall and know!
