I Fell In Love
I fell in love with a southern boy at the age of thirteen
When my dad told me that boy may not share the same thoughts,
The same values as I,
I felt my heart about to burst like a water balloon hastily filled by the hands of an eager child
So I took out my favourite picture
The one with his arm around my waist,
Holding me close,
And my heart was full again,
My mind filled with thoughts that love is worth fighting for
That love is something you only get once
Love,
Love is when you put aside your political differences and you appreciate, each other
Love,
Love conquers all.
When he didn't respond to my messages,
My photos,
My prayers
I felt my heart about to break once more
Then I remembered
How he looked at me as we danced,
How the foolish teenage grins spread through our faces like a sweet plague
And crossed the threshold from our physical selves into our souls,
The sweet plague infecting our eyes,
And our bodies
And our touch,
And my heart is once again full.
To me,
That constant dipping
Lunging
Diving
Climbing,
Uncontrollable tsunami of emotions,
That never ending rise and fall,
That is what love is and should be
I fell in love with a southern boy,
At the age of thirteen.
