Blackbird of my summer days

Sweet blackbird of my summer days
do you hear the angels as you
join the robin and  finch,
a table built for you, fading
paint,seeds and suet cake,
a Christmas feast, hearing
angels sing a natal song.

Do you recall summer days,
fading flowers, swelling fruit
for your dessert this cold
and winter day ?
The moon will chill,
eclipsed the other night
now full of light reflected
in the snow waiting reindeer-
hoof and childrens’ wonder;
tomorrow, eve of Christmas.

Do you believe?
Do you  care ?
Fading paint and suet cake
friends around a table,
robin on a Christmas card.
Come again on summer eve,
take each as we find.
Then,upon the gable tiles,
let me sing organum
to your song.
