The Pie Eater

Being a man of discerning tastes
I was always in favor of eating pie
In my long years so many tasted
and here and now I tell you why

When young I cared not how it came
so thankful for any given free
I ate but never had my fill
nor any a sight more dear to me

All night long I dreamed of pie
of all the varied ways they look
And tucked away my hidden stash
of pictures ripped out of a book

My friends, they all liked pie too
and many times we spoke of such
of how and where to get us some
of that desert we loved so much

And then in college tried new ones
from opportunities just met
I never knew such one's existed
wedges sweet and tart and wet

When married, vowed to eat just one
the flavor I chose best of all
But after time my pie denied
and I went into pie withdrawal

And so it was I would sneak out
to meet that treat that I loved best
for no one should go without pie
their hunger a sworn life long test

I met some people who raised sheep
Leary at first, I will not lie
they offered endless a la mode
and so I gorged on Shepherd's Pie!

Through the years I've had such fun
Pastries of all size and taste
Such pleasures have all filled my mouth
Juiced facial hair not gone to waste

But now I'm old and I get none
just memories sad and pathetic
of a lifetime feasting on sweet pies
has left me a wilted diabetic
