Hallucinations (Make a Life Worth Living)

You quietly ask of me,
An answer that I have never known,
I reply with the best words I can speak.

"What if this was all make believe?"
If we were a figment,
A made up image inside of my mind.

No sentence is good enough,
Not thorough or dense,
I stare off into the distance,
As my face starts to lose pigment.

My best explanation is unworthy,
I hope my hallucinations never end,
Don't tell me, please refrain,
Let me relish it, if I'm insane.

It would be an intolerable truth,
The world's grandest lie.
In reality, my love,
I'd rather die.

My skin gets much too scratchy,
And my mouth much too dry,
Every pitch uttered too high.

Pieces from a puzzle,
Reality is what we make it,
Even if mine is a little muddled,
I enjoy it all the same.

So if this is surreal,
I'll walk along,
Our cold hands entwined,
Mouthing the same old song.
