The Art of Not Giving A Fuck
I don't care
if you heard a word I said
when I asked you to leave
and I don't give a
that you didn't take your boots off
at the front door and walked mud
through my home
I certainly didn't give a
when you flicked through my photo albums
and left empty spaces
where pictures of my daughter
were once placed
and I didn't give a fuck
that my neighbours called the sherif
when they saw you drive off in my pickup
then pull over down by the edge of the woods
to douse my wheels with gasoline
then walk away with your back turned
my pickup burning to hell
I don't give a fuck
if the sherif catches up with you
or if my insurance
comes good with the claim
because I don't give a fuck
if they found my keys in the ignition
I'm more concerned
with the bug guts stuck
in the waffles of my boots
than giving a fuck about the leeches
sucking my blood
from between my toes

Author's Note
This poem was inspired by a comment from a friend, ButcherScraps, his inspiring words are at the following link:
http://deepundergroundpoetry.com/forum/discuss/read/7810/285/
It was also inspired by the thoughts of Mark Manson from an article he wrote about not giving a fuck... check out the link:
http://markmanson.net/not-giving-a-fuck
And finally, a quote from T.S. Eliot... exactly where I fit within Eliot's concept of poets and inspiration is entirely up to you, and whether I've stolen from another poet, that is up to a friend to decide.
“Immature poets imitate; mature poets steal; bad poets deface what they take, and good poets make it into something better, or at least something different.”
― T.S. Eliot, The Sacred Wood

Thanks, Brotha. The poem was getting some positive comments, so figured I did something right in the 15 minutes it took me to write it.
It's funny how and when we get inspired, and ButcherScraps inspired me by giving me an opportunity to challenge myself, to challenge the boundaries of inspiration and to demonstrate my interpretation of a quote by T.S. Eliot, which was previously disembowelled and dismembered in the thread to justify plagiarism.
Thanks again for the positive feedback, brotha.

Thanks heaps, Gabriel. I'm stoked the intensity came through. Soul fuck-giving sounds like the new black. 😉

it's the art of finding inspiration & interpreting it in a skillful manner. it's not theft, it's an homage.
I can't be better than those that inspire me, so I strive to be different...

If I've caught your eye with an opening line, then I must have hit something. Cheers, man, I appreciate the feedback.

God you're good...
I think I've said it before case...I want to hear and see you perform...
your words, your writes lend themselves to this type of performance....

God, you're a sweet talker.
Thanks, Kate for your kind words, unfortunately my spoken word performances ain't as strong as the writing.

The title caught my interest and I'm glad it did since the content 'goes one better'. Like it a lot in its intensity!

Miss Chi, I need to reassure you, I don't normally swear so much in my poetry, and I especially avoid using explicit language in my titles, but I must say, I'm fucking stoked you looked deep within the fucking heart of the poem to find something better. Thank you.

Cheers, man... I do my best to... keep it up. The secret is having horny chicks on my lounge and in the bedroom, whilst I write.

The man in this poem evokes images of swollen knuckles and boozy breath.
Fuck'n loved it.

It's not your best, but these are some damn impressive poetics for a 15 minute write.
All those old blues guys I dig so much ripped each other off so often, it's hard to tell who wrote what now. (& don't even get me started on Led Zeppelin. I like some of their songs, but sheesh, Page & Plant took credit for all kindsa shit they didn't even write, & made millions off it. Most bluesmen toiled.)
As far as plagiarizing another's poems from websites...it's just beyond my ability to empathize with, so I rarely join in the fight. No one ever steals from me :( ~wipes a tear~
Sometimes I can't tell if I give too little a fuck or too much of a fuck. There is definitely an art to it. Great balance.
Happy to provide a spark, but you've made this piece is entirely yours, Case. Thank you.

Man, I totally dig the blues and zeppelin was something I grew up on in my teens, so it's a huge let down to find great artists have resorted to blatantly ripping off music and lyrics from fellow artists.
Yeah, I'm the same, I'm bipolar when it comes to giving a fuck and I've never been plagiarised... maybe it has something to do with fascial hair and our brutish good looks. For some reason chicks always seem to be the targets.
Thanks again for the inspiration and for being a great sport with me pinching your great lines. Cheers... feel free to help yourself to any of my random comments.

Doing some housekeeping, catching up with some very belated replies to comments... Thank you, Zazzles, for the list add and comment, I'm stoked you enjoyed the story behind writing this poem too. Probably not so funny for ButcherScraps, the burning wreck of a pickup truck in the poem, actually happened to him in real life, except the bit about it being stolen, that was my own creative license on his misfortune.

i stumbled over this earlier today and i keep coming back to re-read. it is anger tinged with a bit of disappointment. even if the speaker doesn't give a fuck. i think that slight disappointment is coming through anyway. very well done.

Ms LarkspurBloom, I thank you for stumbling across this piece [there's been a bit of stumbling with this poem... it could have something to do with the F-Bombs], and thank you for sharing your thoughts in your comment. Welcome to DU, 😊
